    What Is a Study Timer?

A study timer is an online timer that splits your study time into focused sessions and short breaks. It counts down each session with large flipping numbers, like a classic flip clock, and tells you when it is time to rest and when it is time to get back to work. Use it for homework, exam revision, reading, writing or any task that needs your full attention.

How Does the Focus and Break Technique Work?

The idea is simple: work in short, timed sessions instead of one long stretch. You focus on a single task for 25 minutes, then take a 5 minute break. After four focus sessions, you take a longer break of 15 to 30 minutes. A running timer makes it easier to start, and knowing that a break is coming makes it easier to keep going. Regular breaks keep your mind fresh, so you can study for longer without losing concentration.

Which Session Length Should I Choose?

The study timer comes with three presets. Pick one in the settings or set your own times.

    • Classic (25-5-15): 25 minutes of focus, a 5 minute break and a 15 minute long break. A good start for most students.
    • Short (15-3-9): shorter sessions for days when it is hard to focus, or for younger students.
    • Long (50-10-30): longer sessions for deep work, such as writing an essay or solving practice problems.

How to Use the Study Timer

Choose your session length in the settings, or keep the default times: 25 minutes to study and 5 minutes for a short break. Add the tasks you want to finish today and estimate how many sessions each one needs.

Press Start. The timer counts down the minutes and seconds, and the display shows whether you are in a study session or on a break. You can pause the timer, reset the current session or skip to the next one with the buttons under the timer.

When a session ends, the timer plays a sound and can show a notification, so you notice it even when the tab is in the background. Your tasks, daily goal and study streak are saved in your browser.

Tips for Studying With a Timer

    • Pick one task for each session and put your phone out of reach.
    • Use breaks to stand up, stretch, drink water or look away from the screen.
    • If a thought distracts you, write it in the task list and get back to work.
    • Set a daily goal and use the statistics to see how much you have studied this week.
